Our Mission

IESL was established in 1994 after the we found that many good analytical tools were yet to be used by clients to optimise their drilling and production strategies. As a consequence, IESL has continued to develop ways to help our clients better understand their assets and make better informed decisions which save time and money. To this end IESL constantly monitors the developments in the areas of Geomechanical Analysis, Drilling and Production and looks to introduce the latest thinking and analytical models that are the right balance between robustness and cost-effectiveness.

We believe our clients should get the right, unbiased decision making information while not being "tied" to either equipment or service providers. Others may offer what they believe are similar services but are often subsidised by greater projects for the client. This means clients eventually pay for inflated overheads. We also understand the commercial pressures and drivers our clients are working under.

Our success has always been driven by quality work. We are not ventured or being pushed to have an "exit strategy". Our staff enjoy the work they do and are under no pressure to "sell on" more work. Due to the nature of our work, we tend to home grow our people as this is the only way we find we can deliver the quality of work our clients want. We keep our operations simple and don't expect our clinets to pay for extravagant overheads but prefer instead to get good honest personalised work from us.

Our future is organic growth with constantly evolving and expanding capabilities - instead of creating solutions looking for problems, we develop a deep understanding of our clients problems in order to deliver appropriate solutions. Although primarily an analytical consultancy, we also design tools, develop databases and train others in the capabilities we have - all linked to the issues our clients have.

While at Schlumberger, he returned to University in Edinburgh to get a M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt working on sand production and associated completion problems. Spent two years in Italy where he was R & D and technical services manager for Italog, a subsidiary of the Geoservices group. In 1993 returned to the UK to found IESL with Jeff Callander and implement joint ideas for innovation and technologies that were shared since their time in the field. The network's purpose is to "Communicate successful methods and gaps of managing sand in the North Sea to allow the continued development and operation of offshore fields". The network is open to all who would add value and benefit from membership to such a network. IES Global is a strong supporter of the network.
